Admissions

PROCEDURES FOR ADMISSIONS TO MONTESSORI IN TOWN

Montessori In Town admits children regardless of economic or social class, race, ethnic heritage, religious beliefs or family structure.  Montessori In Town offers Primary (ages 2 ½ - 6+) and Elementary (ages 6-9+) programs. Independence in the bathroom is a prerequisite for children entering the Primary program.

1. We request that prospective parents schedule a classroom observation and attend an Open House or other events as invited by Montessori In Town. Please see our website or contact the school office for further information.

2. Once you decide to apply, please complete the application form and mail it to Montessori In Town with a non-refundable $75.00 application fee. Please indicate the program for which you are applying your child, Primary or Elementary.  Applications are processed as they are received, however families are encouraged to submit applications early to allow ample time for the admissions process.  If you are seeking admissions for the current school year, we recommend submitting your application at your earliest convenience.

3.  If your child has previously attended school, contact the Montessori In Town office to request the Authorization for Release of Information and Teacher Recommendation forms. These forms are required for all applicants to the Elementary level.  Please submit these forms to the office at your child’s current school.  These forms are required for a complete application packet and
must be delivered directly from the school office to Montessori In Town in order to be considered valid.

4.  Upon receipt of your completed application packet, you will be contacted to schedule a parent interview and separate child visit. We request that both parents and/or guardians be present for the parent interview, if applicable. At the Primary level, children must be at least 2 years 4 months at the time of their child visit; the child visit is a one-on-one visit between the child and a Primary teacher. For older children, the child visit will include a visit while class is in session.  Elementary applicants are asked to bring a sampling of work from their current school.  In some cases we may request that a child return for a second visit.

 5.  Parents interested in pursuing financial aid for the upcoming school year are encouraged to submit their applications for admissions no later than March 1.  After submitting an application for admissions, please submit an online application for financial aid with Student and School Services by the National Association of Independent Schools (http://sss.nais.org/parents/). Montessori In Town’s deadline for the application for financial aid is March 1 with financial aid awarded in April.  Applications made after the deadline may not be eligible for financial aid.

6.  Admissions decisions are made by the Educational Director in conjunction with the teaching staff.  These decisions are based on an evaluation of the child’s visit, parent interview, school transcripts (if applicable) and the needs of the existing classes with regard to balance of age and sex. Upon receipt of a signed tuition payment plan, enrollment contract and non-refundable tuition deposit (equal to one month’s tuition payment), MIT will secure a place for your child.  At this time you will be contractually obligated for the year’s tuition.

7.  Families will receive a school calendar, parent handbook and appropriate enrollment forms to be completed and returned to us prior to your child’s start date.  Parents are required to read the parent handbook in its entirety and sign an agreement to adhere to the guidelines within.  All enrollment forms, including immunization records, must be current and on file in our office in order for your child to begin school.

8.  If a space is not immediately available, you may wish to be placed in our waiting group.  You will receive notification of your child’s waiting group status as spaces become available.

9.  Children placed in the waiting group for the current academic year must re-apply for acceptance the following academic year.  In this case, the application fee will be waived.
